I usually use the Wetlands formula, but have also had great success with the Pine Forest. I switched over to this formula when my current dog retired from active duty because he doesn't need as much fat/protein in retired status. I liked his stool is a bit firmer on this formula. However, you will need to adjust the quantity which I failed to do, so he lost weight because the caloric content is quite a bit less (375 vs. 337). Once I corrected that, he continues to do well and is now regaining lost weight. Coat, skin, eyes, excellent condition on both formulas. Energy and demeanor also excellent.

I have to do this with all dry kibble. I have fed them several of the TOW varieties. This one has no potatoes', so I like that. I avoid the ones with chicken, only because of allergies. I wish I new more about dog food ingredients. So little information available about how they are made and how ingredients are sourced. My dogs enjoy TOW and I will continue to rotate this product through their diet. The smoked Salmon formula is also good. And the Lamb.

He eats it right up and his coat is shiny. He has stopped licking his paws and itching! I hope they make a canned version soon. Thank you TOTW!!

Constant vet visits, bowel issues, HORRIBLE diarrhea, vomiting, hair loss,itchy skin and at his lowest he was 85lbs. We tried shots and pills and prescription dog food, so so much money!! Nothing helped. Until I switched him to this dog food. Now he has hair on his belly! Has normal bowels and no vomiting! He's not all red and itchy and is a healthy,solid 135lbs. My poor baby suffered for 4 years, bc no vet could figure out what was wrong or what could help......I'm so thankful for this dog food, and I know Bowser is too!

The vet tech recommended Taste of the Wild, and this formula keeps my dog's coat shiny and doesn't cause weight gain. I do feed much less than the bag recommends, as my girl isn't very active. She weighs 68 pounds and gets 1 cup twice a day.

They can keep going longer and have a faster recovery time to be able to hunt again the next day. I would choose this food over any other brand on the market.

I have a 10 lb small dog and also a 10 lb 13 week old puppy. I'm trying to find something that I can feed both of them so that I don't have to keep buying two different types of dog food. Is this one good for both or would you suggest another type?

I called and got a response quickly: The High Prarie Puppy with bison and venison formula has 1.4% Calcium and 1.0% Phosphorus. Venison and Legumes formula has 1.4% Clacium and 0.9% Phosphorus.

my dog is 4 and eats 2cups a day, no treats but gained weight. She eats high prarie, would this kind be more likely to help her lose a few lbs and maintain? She has alergies and does well on venison.

Hello again. While our Pine Forest Canine Formula is a great formula, it is contains the same amount of calories per cup as High Prairie. In order for your dog to lose weight, you will need to decrease the total amount of calories she eats per day. We recommend trying a leaner formula such as our Sierra Mountain Canine Formula with Roasted Lamb. It is our lowest calorie formula with 338 kcal/cup versus 370 kcal/cup in High Prairie

My dogs are pretty active dogs. We make sure they are outside a good chunk of the day but with winter coming along they are inside more and more. I have a lab that packs on fat easily. What is the best line that helps control weight?

Hi Katie. We’re glad you’re thinking ahead! We suggest you continue to feed the current formula, following the feeding guide. If your Lab’s weight becomes an issue, transitioning to formulas recommended for less-active dogs such as Sierra Mountain or Pacific Stream might be beneficial. They are slightly lower in protein and fat than other Taste of the Wild recipes.
