Cinnamon Applesauce Ornaments Recipe (2024)

Cinnamon applesauce ornaments are the perfect activity to make with kids over the holiday season. We have made these several times around here and loved them! They also hold up really well and add an amazing aroma to your Christmas tree. So, if you have an afternoon with the kids between now and Christmas, be sure to whip up a batch of cinnamon ornaments!

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup applesauce
  • 1 ¼ cup ground cinnamon
  • Waxed paper
  • Cookie cutters
  • Straw or bamboo skewer
  • Ribbon for hanging

How to Make Cinnamon Ornaments

Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a bowl, mix together applesauce and cinnamon to form a clay-like dough.

Roll out dough between sheets of waxed paper to about ½ inch thick. Cut using cookie cutters. Using a straw or bamboo skewer, create a hole for hanging the ornament. Transfer ornaments to a baking sheet. Bake for 2 ½ hours. Remove from oven and place ornaments in a cooling rack.

Allow ornaments to dry on the cooling rack for 24 to 48 hours, turning occasionally. Add a ribbon to ornaments for hanging or to attach to packages.

I made these with my kids years ago.. mostly because we didn’t have a lot of money and tried to do everything homemade!! Love this idea..very nostalgic!!

Those are so cute! I have never made cookie ornaments, are you supposed to eat them at the end of the season or are they just decoration? I remember making cookie ornaments when I was little but don’t remember what we did with them…

These are so cute! I’ve never made these. Years ago we made salt dough cookie ornaments …I think that is what they’re called…the kids made them and painted them. always fun to make ornaments!

It is going to depend on the size of your cookie cutters but it will make several. Mabye 16 of the size shown?
